About

Engineering Biology is a transformative technology that applies engineering concepts to design, build and manufacture cells and products.

Both the UK and South Korea are world leaders in engineering and synthetic biology, partly resulting from government funded initiatives to advance technology through supporting academic research and industrial hubs. A key area of publicly funded R&D infrastructure, and the focus of this partnership, are biofoundries: fully integrated facilities to enable rapid cell factory design, construction, and testing of biological systems.

This partnership will establish collaborative engineering biology research and development projects between leading UK and Korean researchers. The focus will be on biofoundry developments, enabling unprecedented access to co-development and sharing of engineering and synthetic biology protocols, workflows, software, reagents and scientific know-how.
